Suno Lo-fi prompt
Lo-fi in Suno lives at 65–90 BPM, usually around 78. Below is a Styles prompt that passes our Styles checker, the Exclude list that stops v6 drifting toward EDM drops, distorted guitars, trap hi-hat rolls, a 3:17 arrangement in bars and the cued lyric headers. Copy it, change the mood and the parts you hear differently, paste.
Styles
lo-fi, 78 BPM, calm. Dusty 90s sampler, worn vinyl, tape wobble. Instrumental, the hook carried by the lead synth or melody. Wobbling detuned keys through a cassette, soft muffled drums, room hiss and rain, a sleepy guitar or Rhodes loop that barely changes. Arrangement: intro 4 bars, verse 1 16 bars, hook 8 bars, verse 2 16 bars, hook 8 bars, break 4 bars, final hook 8 bars. Everything warm and slightly muffled with the top end rolled off, drums soft and in front, bass low and round, chords and sample in the middle, vinyl noise on top, narrow and close to mono. Ends cold after the final hook.
Exclude styles
EDM drops, distorted guitars, trap hi-hat rolls, autotune, pop vocals, sidechain pumping
Lead tag: open Styles with lo-fi, word for word. It’s the wording Suno’s own tags use, so it carries more weight than a description.
Vocal: instrumental by default — add a vocal sentence if you want one. Variety at 0 keeps Suno from rewriting the prompt on a final take.
What makes it Lo-fi
Name the parts, not the vibe.
Suno plays what you name. “Lo-fi vibes” gets you its idea of the average lo-fi track; the parts below are what make the genre itself, so they go in the prompt as instructions to the band.
- wobbling detuned keys through a cassette
- soft muffled drums
- room hiss and rain
- a sleepy guitar or Rhodes loop that barely changes
Production colour: dusty 90s sampler, worn vinyl, tape wobble. One phrase like this sets the era better than a list of adjectives.
Why the Exclude list matters. v6 leans toward pop and toward whatever the neighbouring genres share. For lo-fi that means EDM drops, distorted guitars and trap hi-hat rolls creeping in. Put those in Exclude, never as “no …” in Styles: a negative in Styles names the thing and often adds it.
Mix placement beats quality words: “everything warm and slightly muffled with the top end rolled off” tells Suno where things sit. “Radio-ready” or “professional” tells it nothing.

Lyric headers
[Intro | vinyl crackle, filtered Rhodes loop] [Verse 1 | dusty drums and bass enter under the loop] [Hook | chopped vocal sample or a soft sung phrase] [Verse 2 | loop flips, a muted guitar or sax answers] [Hook | instrumental, lead melody carries the hook] [Break | drums out, chords and crackle] [Final Hook | instrumental, lead melody carries the hook] [End | clean ending]
Every header carries a direction after the bar, [Section | how it’s performed]. A bare [Verse] leaves the delivery to chance. The last line, [End | clean ending], is what stops the fade-out and the bonus minute of noodling.
Lyrics
If you add a voice to lo-fi.
Lo-fi vocals are a few lines at most: one soft sung phrase or a short spoken line that loops like a sample, sung under the breath. Write quiet, small and close: one specific moment of an ordinary day (a window, a kettle, the walk home) in plain words, with no chorus build. Repetition is the point: the hook is 2 to 6 words, repeated word for word.
Keep verse lines to about 8 syllables and hook lines to about 6. Longer lines get rushed or swallowed; our lyric checker counts them for you.

Borrowing
Use lo-fi as an influence.
Want a touch of lo-fi in another genre? Don’t put “lo-fi” in the lead tag of a different song: Suno will switch genres. Borrow one part and say where it goes:
- vinyl crackle and tape wobble over the intro and outro
- a low-passed, tape-wobbled chord loop under the bridge
- a muffled, sleepy drum loop under the verses
