Suno v6 sounds worse in the second half? Four ways around it

Why v6 songs start clean and turn muddy in the last minute, and four workarounds: shorter renders, a split-and-cover rescue, Studio stitching and a light repair.

The pattern is the same in thread after thread on r/SunoAI this month. A v6 song opens clean and punchy. Somewhere after the first minute or two the kick starts to boom, the bass goes woolly, the vocal loses its edge, and by the last chorus it sounds like it was recorded in a box. Regenerating gives you a different song with the same slide.

This post is about that slide, the audio getting worse as the song goes on. If your problem is that the song wanders (an extra verse, a key change, a fade that never ends), that's a structure problem with an easier fix, covered in why v6 can sound flat.

Why it happens

Suno hasn't said, so treat this as a guess. The decay tracks time, not section: users report it on simple prompts and detailed ones, with Max Mode on and off, at every tempo. That points at the model rather than the prompt. Long generations seem to drift further from the clean start the longer they run.

Two things follow from that guess, and both match what people report:

  • Shorter renders degrade less, because there's less time to drift.
  • A fresh render of the back half starts clean, so stitching a new second half onto a good first half works.

None of the fixes below is a guarantee. They're the ones that keep coming up as working, in rough order of effort.

1. Render shorter, then lengthen

The cheapest fix is to stop asking v6 for a three-and-a-half minute song in one go.

Plan a song of about 2:00-2:30: one verse, a pre-chorus, two choruses, a short bridge or post-chorus, and an ending. Put the arrangement in Styles and the ending in both places so v6 knows where to stop:

UK garage, 2-step, 134 BPM, warm and swung. Female lead, close and breathy, light grit on the hook.
Shuffled 2-step drums with crisp rimshots, rolling sub bass, chopped organ stabs as the hero part.
Arrangement: Intro 8 bars, Verse 1 low and conversational, Pre-Chorus rising, Chorus full-voiced,
Verse 2 low and conversational, Chorus full-voiced. Vocal centred and dry, organ wide.
Ends cold on the last chorus hit.

And end the lyrics with an explicit ending header:

[Chorus | full-voiced, stacked drums]
...
[End | cold stop on the downbeat]

Set Duration to about 2:20 if your composer shows it, Variety to 0 so Suno keeps your Styles, and judge two to four takes rather than ten. If a take is a keeper but too short, extending it from the last good chorus gives the new section a fresh start (check where Extend sits in your composer; it moves between releases).

2. Rescue a great first half: split and cover the back half

When a song is perfect for two minutes and wrecked after, one r/SunoAI user posted a method that several people say works. It uses Suno Studio, which is on the Premier plan; on Pro you can make the cut and the splice in any free audio editor instead. In short:

  1. Open the full track in Studio (or your editor) and cut it at a natural seam: a drop, or the start of an instrumental break.
  2. Keep the second half on its own and upload it to your library.
  3. Make a Cover of that second half with only the remaining lyrics, Duration just over the length of the cut.
  4. Keep Styles to a sentence or two that ask for the same sound, for example: "Same mix as the source, same lead vocal, same drums and bass."
  5. Push the audio slider high (they used about 85%), keep Style Influence and Weirdness low, Variety at 0.
  6. Pick the take that matches best, then splice it back onto the first half at the seam.

Why it helps: the cover is a short, fresh render that's anchored to your own audio, so it inherits the sound without inheriting the drift. It costs a few generations and some editing time, so save it for songs that earn it.

Tip: write down the exact bar where you cut. At 134 BPM, every four-bar phrase is about 7.2 seconds (bars × 240 ÷ BPM). Cutting on a phrase boundary makes the splice much easier to hide.

3. Stitch the best parts of two takes

You don't always need a cover. If you have two takes of the same song from the same Styles and lyrics, one often has the better ending. Line them up in Studio or any free editor, find a shared downbeat at the start of a section, and crossfade over a beat or two. Same tempo, same key, same lyric: the join is usually inaudible on a chorus entry.

4. Light repair on the master

For a song that's only slightly dull at the end, a gentle fix in a free editor can be enough. Another widely shared r/SunoAI guide crossfades between the original track and an EQ'd, widened copy across the song, so the repair fades in as the decay sets in. The idea is sound, but be careful: a heavy hand makes the end sound processed instead of muddy. Cut the boomy low mids a little, add a touch of top, and stop there.

What doesn't help

  • Regenerating the whole song again and again. The slide comes back in the new take; you just pay for it again.
  • Longer, more detailed Styles. The decay shows up on simple and detailed prompts alike. Clear Styles help the song, not the audio.
  • Words like "high quality" or "mastered" in Styles. They don't change the audio and can push out the parts that matter. Describe placement instead: "vocal centred and dry, pads wide."

And what only Suno can fix: the model itself. Paying users are asking Suno publicly for an answer, and until there is one, shorter renders and fresh back halves are the practical path.

The shortcut

Session Sheet plans short-form songs for you: pick the short length and the package comes back with a 2:00-2:30 arrangement for your genre, Styles with the arrangement and ending sentence in the right order, lyrics with every section cued and an [End] header, and a settings card with Duration and Variety already set. Plan a short-form song in Session Sheet, or check a Styles you already have with the free Styles checker.
